What aspects of village life do you find most enriching or meaningful?
In the place where I live there is the "charm" of knowing each other, so the feeling of solidarity is developed. The quality of life, compared to that of a big city, is much better, especially in everyday matters (easy transportation, clean environment, direct contact with nature). Also, young children have the opportunity to grow up in more "humane" conditions. I still consider the opportunity we all have to exchange opinions essential, turning our small cafes into a small parliament of the Greeks!
Do you have recommendations for visitors to truly experience the authentic charm of our village?
Let them be free in the natural beauties of Methoni. To enjoy our beautiful islands, the sun, the sea and the spectacular sunset. To search for the history of our country, through its many wonderful monuments. To actively participate in the events of our place, while socializing with the local residents.
Can you share a special memory or story that reflects the unique character of our community?
I remember with great nostalgia the authenticity of the celebration of the custom of "Koutroulis the wedding", when there was Catholic participation completely spontaneous. A lot has changed since then, our life has become more "programmed", more consumerist and the consequences are unfortunately visible.
If you could turn back time, would you do anything differently in your life?
I think what is said "everything is a matter of education" is very correct. So I would try to be a better person. I also wish I was more aware of environmental issues, because my biggest fear for future generations is the destruction of the environment and the future of our planet. The current situation only terrifies me, since I see that the "emperors" of the earth have no sensitivity and no ecological consciousness.
